(GSM) – Serbia striker Milan Jovanovic has penned a three-year contract with Liverpool.

The 29-year-old, who stunned World Cup favorites Germany with his winner in their group clash, had been one of Serbia’s star performers at the mega event in South Africa which concludes on Sunday.

Jovanovic becomes Liverpool’s first signing of summer, after signing a pre-contract with the club last season, with his Standard Liege deal expiring this summer.

However, Rafael Benitez’s departure to Internazionale had jeopardized the move.

But Jovanovic has signed on for the Merseyside club despite uncertainty shrouding the club’s future.

“It is an honour for me to sign for one of the biggest clubs in football,” Jovanovic told the club’s official website.

“I cannot wait to start working with the manager and I’m looking forward to joining up with my new teammates on our Swiss training camp.”
