Liverpool have confirmed the sale of Serbian attacker Milan Jovanovic to Belgian club Anderlecht after he spent only one season at Anfield.

The 30-year-old, who joined on a free transfer from Standard Liege in July last year, returns to Belgium on a two-year deal having made 18 appearances for the English Premier League club.

A statement on Liverpool’s official website confirmed the move: “Liverpool have announced that Milan Jovanovic has completed his transfer to Belgian outfit RSC Anderlecht.”

The Belgian club had revealed on Tuesday they were close to signing the 35-time Serbia international.

Anderlecht general manager Herman Van Holsbeeck said he had no doubt Jovanovic would bring quality to the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

“The player constitutes a surplus value for our current squad and will, in addition to his unmistakable talent, present the necessary experience,” he said.

“The management are extremely pleased with the fact that we have been able to bring the negotiations to a favourable conclusion.”
