Genoa midfielder Juan Manuel Vargas has revealed why he decided to leave Fiorentina in the summer transfer window.
The Peru international made a switch to Stadio Luigi Ferraris in the summer following a pretty disappointing season at Artemio Franchi.
The experienced midfielder was one of the hottest commodities in European football a couple of years back, but has since seen his career start taking the wrong turn.
Juan Manuel Vargas has now moved to explain the reasons behind his decision to join Genoa in the summer transfer window.
“I wanted to leave, I had lost all motivation,” Vargas said in an interview with America Noticias. “I decided to change clubs because I wanted to try and renew my career.
“I would never do anything that would put at risk my presence in the national team.”
Vargas joined Fiorentina in a €12 million move from Catania in the summer of 2008, and he enjoyed a bright start to his career at Artemio Franchi.
During the four seasons in Florence, the Peruvian winger made a total of 104 Serie A appearances for Viola, scoring 12 goals in the process.
