Although the European leagues might be putting together their preparations before the new seasons get underway, the MLS have reached the quarterfinals of this years US Open Cup and battles at both ends of the Brazilian Serie A table are starting to heat up. On that note, we have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your midweek footballing accumulator.

Thursday 19th July

01:30 BST Chicago Fire vs Louisville City FC

Starting with former Bayern Munich and Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger’s Chicago Fire side, although The Reds have undoubtedly secured the easiest tie of the quarterfinals against USL side Louisville, The Fire have begun to struggle in the Eastern Conference. Although we are backing the hosts to come past the lower league outfit, Chicago are coming off the back of a third loss on the bounce when they shipped three against Dallas over the weekend. Despite now scoring 10 in their last five and finding the net in each appearance since the middle of May, Chicago have slipped out of the playoff positions and have conceded 10 in their last three outings. As for Louisville, although the USL side should feel this is a perfect opportunity to collect their second MLS scalp, the visitors have begun to drop off the pace of late and although they sat atop of the table for a large spell of the season, they have now recorded just one win in their last five.

Tip: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals @ 20/21

01:30 Houston Dynamo vs Sporting Kansas City

Starting with Houston, although The Dynamo may currently sit outside of the playoff positions and only managed to pick up one win in their last five, Wilmer Cabrera’s side have shown improvements of late and should fancy their chances of booking a spot in the semi-finals. Scoring five in their last three, Houston will also be confident about their record at the BBVA Compass Stadium. Coming past Minnesota United in the round of 16, Dynamo have now not lost any MLS home match since the 1st of April and will be looking for top scorer Alberth Elis to lead from the front. The Houston striker now has nine for the season and sits fifth in the goalscoring charts. As for Kansas City, although it was a bright start to the campaign for Peter Vermes’ side, Sporting are coming off the back of a 3-2 loss to New York Red Bulls and along with losing three of their last four, The Whites have conceded 11 in their last four.

Tip: Houston Dynamo and both teams to score @ 11/4

01:45 Gremio vs Atletico Mineiro

Two sides that are looking to make a push to the top of the Brazilian Serie A table, a win for Gremio on Thursday could see them leapfrog Mineiro into second spot. For the visitors, Atletico are coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Ceará last weekend that has extended The Black and Whites impressive record in the final third. Now on a four-match unbeaten run and winning their last three on the bounce, Atletico have now scored 14 goals in that run and one man to watch is forward Roger Guedes, the #23 has now scored three in his last two. While Gremio have grown a reputation for their defensive stability this season by conceding just five so far, they have now only lost one match since the start of April and have found the net in 15 of their last 19 outings. Backing both teams to find the net at 11/10 seems like the best bet here.

Tip: Both teams to score @ 11/10
