July 23rd: Sunday’s Daily Double – 7/1 Special, Tips & Predictions

With the American Leagues Cup getting underway this weekend, there are a host of intriguing affairs from across the footballing globe.

For those of you looking to stick on a Sunday flutter, we have found a couple of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

20:00 Santos vs Botafogo RJ

While Botafogo might have been disappointed after only mustering a bottom-half finish last season, Sunday’s guests have only continued on a remarkable romp this time around. Riding what has been a history-making wave of momentum and gaining a string of plaudits from across Serie A, Bruno Lage’s men hold a stunning 12-point buffer at the top of the table.

With the mood around the Nilton Santos at the highest it has been in recent memory, the former Wolves boss will simply be calling on his high-flying squad to make another domestic statement here.

Extending on their Copa Sudamericana adventure earlier in the week as they punched their Round of 16 ticket thanks to a 3-1 aggregate victory against Patronato, the Fire are unbeaten in each of their previous 10 straight appearances across all competitions.

Likewise, only suffering a single defeat last 15 contests – a run that stems all the way back to May 17th – Botafogo have also gained a reputation for their continued success on the road.

In fact, Lage’s runaway Serie A leaders have won each of their previous four matchups outside of Rio de Janeiro by an aggregate score of 6-0.

Looking to extend on their remarkable purple patch here, Botafogo will be relishing a trip to the Vila Belmiro this weekend.

Watching Santos make an immediate return to winning ways last week as they slumped to a woeful 4-1 drumming at the hands of Sao Paulo, many in Paulo Turra’s squad will be starting to look over their shoulders at a looming relegation scrap.

Only snatching a single victory from their last 14 straight appearances across all formats, Sunday’s hosts have also shown some rather glaring defensive issues.

Including opening July with a 3-0 defeat against Cuiaba, the Peixe have shipped 10 goals in just their last three domestic showdowns.

Hit with a routine 3-0 loss when they travelled to the Nilton Santos eight months ago, Santos will know that they face a real challenge this weekend.

22:15 Defensa y Justicia vs Sarmiento Junin

Extending on their Copa Argentina adventure earlier in the week after claiming a 1-0 victory at home against SCR Espanol, Defensa y Justicia have only continued on a real domestic purple patch over the past six weeks. Turning their attention back to Primera Division duties on Sunday night, the Hawks should be smelling the chance to make up some ground in the top-three chase here.

Now unbeaten in each of their previous six straight domestic appearances across all competitions, Julio Vaccari’s men should also be excited by their extended success at the Estadio Norberto since opening the 2023 campaign.

Eventually breezing their way to the Copa Sudamericana knockout stage last month without breaking much of a sweat, the former Velez Sarsfield coach finds his side in the midst of an 11-match unbeaten romp in front of their own supporters – a run that stems all the way back to April 8th.

With that hometown flurry highlighted by a routine 2-0 victory against top-nine hopefuls Belgrano when returning from June’s international break, Defensa will be confident of making another Primera Division statement this weekend.

Forced to settle for what was a downbeat stalemate at home against fellow strugglers Velez last time out, Sarmiento Junin are certainly in the midst of another domestic rut.

Along with recording just a single point from any of their previous four top-flight showdowns, the Buenos Aires-based outfit have also mustered just one win from any of their last nine appearances across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to May 15th.

It should also be noted, along with losing each of their last three straight away victories by an aggregate score of 5-0, Sunday’s guests have failed to muster a single strike on their travels over the past nine weeks.

Opening July with what was a routine 2-0 defeat at the hands of Boca Juniors, Israel Damonte’s downbeat squad should face another stern examination this weekend.
