June 21st: Wednesday’s South American Double – 3/1 Special, Tips & Predictions

With the EURO qualifiers drawing to a close, it will be South America’s elite that steals most of the midweek headlines.

Ahead of what looks set to be a stacked schedule from both Brazil and Argentina’s top-flights, we are also treated to plenty of interesting betting markets.

So, for those of you looking to stick on a Wednesday flutter, we have created your ultimate South American betting double.

23:00 Estudiantes vs San Lorenzo

Watching their extended purple patch come to an abrupt end prior to the international break as they slumped to a 1-0 loss away at Colon, Estudiantes will now be desperate to prove that performance was nothing more than a minor blip. However, still battling it out at the top of the Primera Division table, there is no doubt that Los Pincharratas will be glad to make a return to the Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi in midweek.

Suffering just a single defeat from any of their previous 17 straight appearances across all competitions- a run that stems all the way back to March 19th – Wednesday’s hosts have a Copa Libertadores ticket at the top of their agenda in 2023.

A huge part of Estudiantes’ success this season has been thanks to their remarkable continued flurry on home soil. In fact, on a run that is highlighted by an action-packed 5-2 victory against Barracas Central on June 2nd, Eduardo Dominguez’s men have not suffered a single defeat in front of their own supporters from any of their last 10 showdowns in La Plata.

With that eye-catching flurry stemming all the way back to the middle of February, Estudiantes will be looking to cash in on a San Lorenzo squad that are in the midst of a recent wobble.

Along with having to settle for a trio of 0-0 stalemates before heading into June’s international break, Wednesday’s guests have failed to match a similar level after opening the 2023 campaign with an early statement.

Now without a win from any of their previous five appearances across all competitions, it should also be highlighted that the Saints have failed to muster a single goal in over 400 minutes of action.

Betting Tip: Estudiantes win @ 6/5 Pribet

23:00 Cruzeiro vs Fortaleza

Although Cruzeiro might have come flying out the traps when making their Serie A return this season, Wednesday’s hosts have largely come crashing back down to earth over the past month. Despite heading into the international break with a lively draw away at Bahia, Pepa’s men are without a win from any of their previous six domestic appearances across all competitions.

Opening June with back-to-back 1-0 losses at the hands of Atletico-MG and Gremio, the Blues are also seeking a much-needed clinical edge in the final third.

In fact, on what has quickly become an infamous draught on home soil, it should be highlighted that Cruzeiro have remarkably failed to notch a single goal in any of their last four straight appearances at the Mineirao – a run that stems back to May 6th.

Likewise, although Fortaleza might have signed off May in the midst of a real purple patch, Wednesday’s guests find themselves in a very similar position to their midweek rivals. Last seen putting in a toothless display as they suffered a 2-0 loss away at Botafogo, Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s men have mustered just a single point from any of their last three Serie A outings.

Along with drawing a blank in each of those three straight Serie A appearances, Fortaleza have also gained a reputation for their attacking issues on the road since opening the 2023 campaign.

It should be noted, the Tricolor have recorded just a single away strike from any of their last five attempts. With just one of the previous four meetings between Wednesday’s opponents at the Mineirao finishing with both teams finding the net, chances could come at a real premium here.
