June 28th: Friday’s Irish Double – 4/1 Special, Betting Tips & Predictions

With the EURO 24 Round of 16 stage officially getting underway this weekend, all of Friday’s attention will fall on Ireland’s elite throughout Friday night.

With five Premier Division showdowns on the cards, there are some heavyweight battles at both ends of the table.

For those of you looking to stick on a Friday flutter, we have taken a look at some of the most intriguing Premier Division betting markets that are available.

19:45 Shelbourne vs Galway

Only continuing on what has been an astonishing Premier Division adventure this season, Shelbourne are in the midst of what has been a record-breaking romp. With the mood around Tolka Park at a famous high, Damien Duff’s men are now sat in the driving seat to get their hands on a first domestic crown since way back in 2006.

Heading into Ireland’s fortnight interval with another gritty performance as they secured a 1-0 victory away at Waterford, the one-time Chelsea star has seen his squad gain a string of plaudits.

Opening June with another 1-0 win against former Irish champions Dundalk, the Reds mark their return to Premier Division action holding a two-point buffer over the chasing pack and looking to make another statement here.

With their remarkable flurry underlined by a stellar 2-0 win away at Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne have collected 15 points from their previous six Premier Division appearances.

It should also be noted, with with shipping just a single strike over the past five weeks, Duff’s high-flying squad have lost just one of their last 11 consecutive top-flight showdowns – a run that stems all the way back to April 19th.

Although Galway might have only made their Premier Division return this season, Friday’s guests have gained a reputation for their rugged approach and they now have their sights set on securing a shock top-half finish.

However, while John Caulfield’s men might have been last seen storming their way to a routine 3-0 victory against Drogheda earlier in the month, they certainly have a real challenge on their hands here.

Losing back-to-back showdowns away from Eamonn Deacy Park by an aggregate score of 4-1, they should also be concerned by a nightmare record away at the Premier Division leaders.

Including a 1-0 defeat when they travelled to Tolka Park back on March 4th, they have lost all of their last five straight top-flight trips to Shelbourne by an aggregate score of 13-0.

19:45 Derry City vs Drogheda

While Derry might have eventually fallen short last season as they had to settle for a Premier Division silver medal finish, the Candystripes have continued to receive a string of plaudits from across Ireland’s elite. Marking their return to top-flight action sat just two points adrift of climbing to the top of the table, Friday’s hosts will certainly be smelling a golden opportunity here.

Last seen heading into the fortnight interval with a 2-1 win away at Bohemians, Ruaidhri Higgins’ camp are rightfully pencilled in as a landslide contender at the Brandywell Stadium.

Opening June with a thumping 3-0 victory against Waterford, Derry have won all of their previous three Premier Division appearances by an aggregate score of 7-1.

Likewise, suffering just a single defeat from any of their previous 12 top-flight outings, it should also be highlighted that Higgins’ camp have notched at least a pair of goals in four of their previous five appearances.

On the flip side, while Drogheda might have eventually clung to their Premier Division status last season, Friday’s guests have endured a public Premier Division nightmare this time around.

Last seen on June 13th getting hit with a routine 3-0 drumming at the hands of Galway, the Dogs have collected just a single point from any of their previous six top-flight appearances.

Marking their return from the fortnight interval sat rock-bottom of the table and already eight points adrift of safety, Drogheda are rightfully pencilled in as a landslide relegation contender this season.

With their recent struggles underlined by an action-packed 4-2 loss away at Waterford on May 23rd, Kevin Doherty’s men have already shipped 37 goals since opening up the 2024 campaign.
