Just how far can Tottenham go this season?

Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at White Hart Lane yesterday took Harry Redknapp’s side to third in the Premier League table.

Villa never really threatened the home side and Spurs looked different class against the visitors.

Class

After a really poor start to the season Tottenham have looked superb in recent months. Not only are they playing winning football, Spurs are playing good, attractive football.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has built a superb football team and that’s why he is favourite for the England job.

Return

The Tottenham boss made a return to the dugout last night. He had missed the last few games after having a heart operation. And he couldn’t of wished for a less stressful night as his team gave a reassuring performance. Just what the doctor ordered for Harry’s ticker.

Key

The player has that has been key for Tottenham this season is midfielder Scott Parker. For so long he was underrated. However last season he won FWA Footballer of the Year due to his fantastic form with West Ham and form has continued into this season with Tottenham.

His energy, tough tackling and drive has epitomised his career so far but in the last few years he has become one of the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League. Parker’s consistency has also made him one of the most important midfield players for England.

The 31 year-old is not the most technically talented player in the Tottenham team. However he is the player that does the dirty work for the more technically gifted players around him. Parker is the player that holds the Tottenham midfield together.

Midfield

Tottenham have a midfield to compete with most sides in Europe. In fact the likes Gareth Bale and Luka Modric were linked with big money moves in the summer. Bale has been linked with a move to European Champions Barcelona.

And Modric was of course linked with a move to Tottenham’s London rivals Chelsea. Both players are highly talented and would probably get in most teams in the Premier League. Keeping hold of Modric this summer is one of the keys to Tottenham’s success this season.

Europe

If Tottenham’s first eleven stay fit and in form then its hard to see how Spurs won’t claim a Champions League spot this season. Last season Spurs came up short in the race for the Champions League places, finishing fifth.

They are a far stronger outfit this season. The signings of striker Emmanuel Adebayor and Scott Parker have been catalysts for Spurs good form this season. Adebayor hasn’t scored a glut of goals but he has been a good foil for the likes of attacking midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart.

The Togo striker is a player that scores in runs and after his brace last night could now go on a goalscoring run. The former-Arsenal striker can be unstoppable on his day and he was an inspired signing by Harry Redknapp.

Confident

Tottenham have started to play with a confidence that befit’s a team that means business. On their day they can beat any team in the Premier League. Spurs are a real threat this season and that showed by the fact that Aston Villa showed them so much respect last night.

It wouldn’t surprise me if at the end of the season Tottenham were in third place in the Premier League. The teams around them haven’t looked convincing at all and Tottenham have found some real momentum.

The question is would that momentum continue if Harry Redknapp leaves the club to become England manager next summer? The veteran boss has done a superb job at White Hart Lane and it would be a big blow to Spurs to lose their boss.

However if Redknapp does decide to take the England job next summer he will have left solid foundations for the next manager to come in and keeping taking Tottenham forward.

Will Tottenham get one of those Champions League spots this season?
