Juve and Spurs battle it out for Everton star; City set for January shopping spree

Juve and Spurs locked in the battle for Everton star

Juventus have joined Tottenham in the race for Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar as the Bianconeri seek to further reinforce the squad in January.

The South African will be out of contract at the end of the season, but the Italians are likely to try and sign him in January even though they could get him for free just six months later.

Pienaar has been offered a new contract at Goodison but he is not satisfied with the terms and the 28-year-old seems to be looking for a new challenge.

Both Tottenham and Juventus are set to intensify their interest in January since the competition for Pienaar’s signature would be much stiffer should they wait for his contract to expire.

The Bianconeri have signed an excellent winger in Milos Krasic this summer and if they manage to snatch Pienaar as well, they will have created a marvelous wing partnership that could prove crucial in their quest for trophies.

Jermain Defoe: I want to finish my career at Tottenham

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe says the club are going in the right direction and that he would be happy to end his career at White Hart Lane.

Defoe will sit out tonight’s game against Werder due to injury, but he is adamant Spurs have big enough squad to cope with all the problems.

“From front to back we have quality players, internationals, who can make the difference at the top level.

“We also have a manager in Harry Redknapp that has shown himself to be right up there with the best in the business.

“You’d have to crazy not to want to stay a part of that. So yes, I want to stay for the rest of my career because I believe Tottenham will go on to establish themselves in the top four under Harry.”

The diminutive striker may have a point here as Spurs indeed have all the things required to become a top 4 team, although the traditional injury problems is something they can definitely do without.

City set for a new shopping spree

Manchester City are preparing a January shopping spree as they hope to remain in the race for the top 4 finish.

Roberto Mancini has admitted he still needs two or three more players in order to build a squad capable of challenging for honours with the club owners likely to grant him the wish.

The Italian is now actively looking for strikers, with Edin Dzeko, Karim Benzema and Alexandre Pato on top of his wish list, although they clearly wouldn’t come cheap.

Mancini will also try to address the lack of creativity in the squad by signing an attacking midfielder, with Palermo’s Javier Pastore seen as the perfect solution to this problem.

The boss also wants Wesley Sneijder, but that looks like a mission impossible at the moment.

City have had a decent start to the season and it is more than clear they will do everything necessary to remain in the race for the Champions League places, so you can be sure the Citizens will sign at least few more players in January.
