Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport understands that Juventus and Atletico Madrid are locked in the battle for Bayern Munich hotshot Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Swiss international scored the final goal in the 7-1 hammering of AS Roma on Tuesday to prove he has what it takes to play at this level and it is no secret he plans to leave Alianz Arena in search of first team football.
Juventus see the 23-year-old as a perfect long-term replacement for Arturo Vidal, but seeing as how Shaqiri would be ineligible to play in the Champions League for the Bianconeri should he arrive in January, the Old Lady will wait until the summer before making their move.
Taking also into account that the midfielder’s contract is due to expire in June 2016, he should be available on a cut-price deal at the end of the season.
Juventus’ Champions League rivals Atletico Madrid are keen as well, so we could see a real bidding war between the Italian and Spanish champions at the end of the current campaign.
