(GSM) – Samuel Eto’o has stated that Internazionale are preparing to “write history” against Barcelona on Tuesday after beating Juventus in Serie A.
Inter ran out 2-0 winners with Mohamed Sissoko’s 37th-minute dismissal for a second yellow card aiding their cause.
But Inter had to wait until the 75th minute to break the deadlock for the win at San Siro on Friday night.
And Eto’o made the game safe for Inter with his 16th strike of the season in injury time.
But the Cameroonian international is looking forward to the Nerazzurri’s next challenge, the Champions League semi-final first leg against his club Barca in Milan.
“It was a difficult and tense game, but the important thing is we won and are now awaiting Tuesday’s match,” he told Inter Channel.
“We must get ready in a relaxed manner, testing out and predicting it in our minds, because you play games like this with your head more than anything else.
“Would I celebrate if scoring against Barcelona? Of course I would at San Siro, but at the Nou Camp I wouldn’t celebrate in front of my old fans. Barcelona are the strongest side in the world right now, but every match is different and we want to write history.”
Eto’s believes Maicon’s goal, a spectacular volley, may prove the best of the campaign but he feels Inter’s determination was the decisive factor.
“More than my goal, the key was the hard work of all the team,” he said. “My goal just gave us that extra bit of security.
“I think Maicon scored the best goal of the season so far. Aside from that, I was truly impressed with the heart the team showed. There aren’t many games left and we must keep fighting, as we can do this.”
