Juventus close to sealing de Ligt

According to a recent report from Sky Italy, Serie A champions Juventus are set to complete the signing of Matthijs de Ligt during the week. The belief is that a fee has yet to be agreed between Ajax and Juventus, but that there is no longer competition from elsewhere with both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain pulling out of the race.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride of a saga for all parties involved, because at one stage, it seemed increasingly likely that Barca were going to be the ones to get the job done and bring de Ligt over to the Nou Camp.

Either way it has always seemed fairly obvious that his future would be away from the Dutch giants, but now it all comes down to what kind of fee is agreed upon. There’s no denying that it’s going to be a hefty amount, but the question is whether or not he will break the all-time transfer fee for defenders.
