According to Tuttosport, Juventus’ chairman Andrea Agnelli has officially held talks with Edwin van der Sar over the possibility of signing Matthijs de Ligt. The youngster is the definition of a hot commodity, with many believing that he and Frenkie de Jong will go on to do great things in the game.
Agnelli has worked together with van der Sar, who is Ajax’s chief executive officer, in the past – which could help Juve’s cause. Of course it still doesn’t seem likely that de Ligt will leave in the January transfer window, with VDS himself noting that they’d wait until the end of the season before committing to any kind of deal.
Barcelona are the other club who were said to be leading the race for signing de Ligt, with PSG also being interested.
Whatever happens it seems like he’ll be pretty well off financially wherever he goes, but the question remains as to whether he’ll leave at the same time as de Jong.
