Italian champions Juventus are readying a late assault on Zenit midfielder Axel Witsel, Tuttosport has suggested.
The Bianconeri have worked hard throughout the summer transfer window, but they still haven’t managed to sign a high-profile holding midfielder.
Juventus have not given up on Blaise Matuidi, Luiz Gustavo or Steven N’Zonzi, but Axel Witsel appears to be the closest to moving to Turin.
The Belgian has rejected a lucrative offer from Everton in order to join the Bianconeri, but Zenit were far from happy with Juventus’ €18 million proposal.
However, having seen that they could lose the player on a free transfer in a year’s time, the Russians now seem prepared to negotiate a transfer fee with the Serie A giants.
Juventus have another two days left to complete the deal, which should be more than enough considering that personal terms with the Belgium international midfielder had been agreed earlier.
