Juventus join race for Arsenal target

Sky Sports is reporting that Juventus are lining up a Bosman deal for Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta.

The towering centre-back has a contract that is due to expire at the end of the season, and he has already informed club chiefs that he plans to leave San Mames in the summer.

Arsenal were believed to be leading the race for the highly rated stopper, but Sky Sport claims Juventus are hoping to hijack the Gunners’ move for Amorebieta.

According to the same source, the player’s representatives have flown to Italy to negotiate a Bosman deal with interested sides.

Inter Milan and AC Milan are also in the race for the Venezuelan international, while free-spending Anzhi are keen as well.

The player has, however, already rejected an offer from Russia, and recently cited English Premier League as his preferred destination.

Fernando Amorebieta has spent his entire career at Athletic Bilbao, and has made a total of 195 La Liga appearances for the club.
