Juventus have started the engines on their machinery to pull in Manchester City’s Phil Foden, according to the Mirror.
The 18-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and negotiations over a new one are reportedly set to begin soon. However, Juventus are following the situation closely, and should a deal between City and the young midfielder fail to materialize, they are ready to swoop in and sign the player in January for as little as £175,000, a sum reflecting the Premier League title holders’ development cost.
Having lost Jadon Sancho who went to Borussia Dortmund and has been impressive so far, City are facing a lot of pressure to show their owners that all the money invested in the Academy over the recent few years hasn’t been wasted. In order to keep Foden, they will not only have to offer him a lucrative wage structure, but also to have manager Pep Guardiola give him more first-team opportunities to help further his development.
