Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Italian champions Juventus are believed to have submitted an improved offer for Zenit midfielder Axel Witsel.
The Bianconeri have already agreed personal terms with the Belgian, who will join the club on a free transfer at the end of the season unless the two sides can agree on a transfer fee in January.
Juventus would prefer to add their target to the squad at the earliest opportunity and they have now offered €7 million for Axel Witsel.
The Bianconeri are also looking at other players such as Blaise Matuidi, Tomas Rincon, Corentin Tolisso and Steven N’Zonzi, but it is perfectly clear that the Belgian is their first choice.
The 27-year-old is widely regarded as one of Europe’s leading holding midfielders and he is keen on moving to Turin in January.
As expected, Zenit are trying to secure the best possible deal, but chances are the two sides will eventually come to an agreement.
