Big news are coming out of Italy! Sky Sports have reported today that Juventus and Barcelona are getting closer to finalising the deal for Arthur Melo, for the Brazilian to make a move to Serie A champions. And the transfer fee is staggering – Juventus will reportedly pay 72.5 million pounds, or to be more precise, 80 million euros!
That is an astronomical price for a player that still has not reached his full potential, but also considering that the world of football is going through a financial crisis following the coronavirus pandemic. But this is nowhere near the full story. There are reports suggesting that Barcelona will sign Miralem Pjanic for a huge sum as well, probably somewhere in the region of 65 million euros.
Therefore this will almost be a swap, just with the clubs exchanging huge transfer fees, most probably to try and improve their numbers in financial reports. It is a similar tactic to that of Barca and Valencia last summer, when they were exchanging goalkeepers in deals worth around 35 million euros on each end.
