Juventus wanted Godin?

According to reports in Italy, Juventus were interested in signing Diego Godin back in the summer transfer window. The Uruguayan defender currently plays for Atletico Madrid, where he has spent the last eight years of his career after moving from Villarreal back in 2010. It’s no secret that Atletico have been a difficult team to negotiate with both in terms of players and other clubs, but it seems as if The Old Lady really didn’t get very far in their attempts to bring him over to Serie A.

Godin, 32, is widely considered to be one of the best defenders in world football, and he solidified that viewpoint during the World Cup when he put in a string of great performances. Towards the end of the summer it seemed as if Manchester United would be the club who put in a late bid for him, but as it turns out, Juve were also a few steps away from perhaps making some noise too. It remains to be seen as to whether or not they’ll go after him again in January.
