Pohang Steelers suffered only their second defeat of the K-League season as they lost 2-1 to Suwon Bluewings on Saturday.
A double by Brazilian Bluewings striker Marcel keep Steelers four points from top spot, ahead of league leaders Jeonbuk Motors’ home clash with Seoul on Sunday.
Chasing their fifth win in succession, the Bluewings got off to an ideal start when former Benfica forward Marcel headed in the opener after four minutes.
Steelers pulled level in fortuitous circumstances through an own-goal by Suwon right-back Oh Beom-Seok.
But Marcel restored the Bluewings’ advantage midway through the second half, ensuring their winning run continues as they rise to fifth in the table.
Elsewhere, Daejon Citizen coughed up a 3-0 lead at home against Chunnam Dragons to draw 4-4, while bottom-side Gangwon’s woes continued with a 4-2 loss to visiting Jeju United.
Joao Paulo’s 84th-minute strike netted Gwangju a share of the points in a 2-2 draw at Incheon United, while Daegu beat Sangju Sangmu 2-1 and Busan I’Park edged Seongnam 1-0.
