Younes Kaboul’s stoppage-time equaliser saw bottom of the table Portsmouth grab a valuable Premier League point in a 1-1 draw away to Sunderland here on Saturday.
Kaboul, who once turned down a move to the Stadium of Light, struck three minutes into added-on time and was then sent off for removing his shirt while celebrating his goal, having already been shown a yellow card.
Sunderland went ahead through striker Darren Bent in the 23rd minute and might have been 2-0 up 10 minutes from time when Andy Reid’s free-kick came off the crossbar.
The hosts opened the scoring when Reid, after a fine cross to the far post from teenage midfielder Jordan Henderson, played the ball back across goal where the unmarked Bent fired in from close range past returning Portsmouth goalkeeper David James.
Both sides wasted chances to score in the second half before Kaboul’s blocked goalbound effort late on led to a corner from which the French defender poked in the equaliser.
