Borussia Dortmund have confirmed speculations that star forward Shinji Kagawa will not be extending his contract at the club.
The Japanese international has one year left on his deal at Signal Iduna Park and he looks set to leave the club at the end of the season.
The club chiefs did their best to persuade the player into signing a contract extension, but they are now prepared to cash in on their prized asset as they want to avoid losing him for free in year’s time.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that Kagawa has opted against signing a new deal with the Bundesliga champions.
“I had a meeting with his representatives on Monday morning – Shinji Kagawa told them to inform us that he would definitely not renew his contract with us,” Zorc told Bild.
Kagawa was purchased for mere €350,000 and he is now worth around €15 million according to the German newspaper.
“I do not set transfer prices. Should offers for Kagawa arrive, we will deal with them and negotiate.”
The Japanese forward is widely tipped to join Manchester United at the end of the season, but BVB chiefs will only sell him if the price is right.
