Kaiserslautern announced on Tuesday that they have parted ways with coach Marco Kurz.
The move comes after a winless run that stretches back to October and sees the club languishing at the foot of the Bundesliga table, with 20 points from 26 matches.
“After the 4-1 defeat against Schalke on Sunday and many intensive discussions, we have come to the conclusion that we must take this step,” Kaiserslautern CEO Stefan Kuntz told the club’s official website.
“In recent weeks and months, we tried different things to get the team back on track. Unfortunately, this was not successful.”
Kurz was appointed as Kaiserslautern coach in 2009, taking the club to a seventh-placed finish in the Bundesliga in 2010/11 after he guided them to promotion to the top flight the season before.
Kaiserslautern announced that assistant Oliver Schafer and goalkeeping coach Gerry Ehrmann will guide the team until a permanent replacement is found.
