Real Madrid midfielder Kaka has revealed he feared his career was over after suffering a serious knee injury.
The Brazilian star returned to the pitch in Real’s 3-2 win over Getafe on Monday in his first appearance since Brazil’s World Cup quarter-final loss to the Netherlands in July.
The 28-year-old had surgery on his left knee in August and said he had doubts about whether he would ever be able to return to the pitch.
“At times, I was afraid when I thought about when I was going to come back or if I ever would,” Kaka said.
“I lacked the joy I get from playing. I’m available now and I will do my best to play with joy again.”
“I must now earn a spot because the team is in great form. Competition is always good for the team.”
Kaka played only 20 minutes as a substitute against Getafe, but said it had been a ‘special’ experience.
“I am very happy for playing a game again and for stepping onto a pitch,” Kaka said.
“Coming back with a victory is the best thing that could’ve happened to me.”
“The match against Getafe was hard, but what mattered in the end was winning. It was special to play for 20 minutes.”
“I wish to thank (Jose) Mourinho for the great help he’s given me all this time. He is boosting my confidence to play again.”
