Nigeria forward Nwankwo Kanu signed a one-month contract with Premier League club Portsmouth on Friday.
Kanu’s contract at Fratton Park expired at the end of last season and he has spent much of the close-season considering his options.
The 33-year-old, who scored 21 goals in 94 appearances for Pompey, has agreed to return to Portsmouth on a short-term basis as boss Paul Hart searches for a permanent replacement for Peter Crouch, who joined Tottenham last month.
Portsmouth are in financial turmoil, with the attempted takeover by Dubai property developer Sulaiman al-Fahim still to be completed despite being agreed three months ago.
