Real Madrid assistant coach Aitor Karanka has praised his side’s 3-1 victory over a stubborn Sporting Gijon side in La Liga on Saturday.

Goals from Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema cancelled out Miguel De Las Cuevas’ opening penalty.

The win preserves Real’s four point advantage at the top with just five games remaining.

Even so, Karanka said the team are taking each game as it comes and will now focus specifically on next week’s Champions League semi-final tie against Bayern Munich.

“I consider the reaction of the team to be very good. When people said we were under pressure like against Atletico de Madrid in Vicente Calderon the team remained calm and we waited for the best moment to score the second goal, and the third goal…..finally, it is just one more game, three points more and that should be that until the end.”
