Loris Karius is set to return to Liverpool at the end of the season, as reported exclusively by James Pearce of The Athletic.
The goalkeeper joined the Reds in 2016, and though he was given several chances to establish himself as the first choice between the posts, he failed spectacularly when two of his howlers in the final gifted the 2018 Champions League title to Real Madrid. Liverpool then signed Alisson Becker and never looked back, but Karius was dispatched on a two-year loan to Besiktas, at the end of which the Turkish side would have the option of making the deal permanent for £7.25 million.
But with Besiktas not interested in doing so, Liverpool will have him back this summer. However, there is practically no hope that the 26-year-old will have a place in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, and the German himself expects to be sold. The Merseysiders are open to offers for his services, with his contract running for further 12 months.
