Blackburn manager Steve Kean has been charged with drink driving following his side’s draw with Manchester United on Saturday.

The 43-year-old was stopped by Cheshire police on the M6 hours after Blackburn’s 1-1 draw with the Premier League champions that left the club hovering just one point above the relegation zone.

Kean was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently bailed to appear in court next month.

“At 8.50pm on Saturday 14 May, Cheshire officers stopped a Mercedes car on the M6 southbound carriageway, between Junction 19 and 18,” a spokesman for Cheshire police said.

“The driver, a 43-year-old man, provided a positive breath test.”

“He was subsequently charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and bailed to appear at Crewe magistrates’ court on June 7.”

Blackburn travels to Wolverhampton on the final day of the season on Sunday, needing a victory to guarantee they remain in the top flight.
