Kean defiant in face of criticism

Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean remains adamant he does not expect to be sacked from his post.

Tuesday’s derby defeat at home to Bolton was Kean’s seventh home loss of the season, a result which sees Rovers bottom of the Premier League at Christmas.

There have been persistent rumours that club owners Venky’s are set to oust Kean from his position.

However, despite ongoing protests from fans, Kean says he fully expects to be in the job after Christmas.

When asked if he would be shocked if Venky’s replaced him, Kean said: “Yes, 100 percent.”

Two first-half Bolton goals secured all three points on Tuesday night, with Yakubu’s second-half chip proving a consolation.

While Kean admits his side were second-best in the early stages of the game, he commended their attitude as they looked to salvage something from the derby.

“We are disappointed with the first-half performance as we never got started but full respect to the lads, they reacted in the second half and we gave it a go,” he said.

“I expected us to get something once we got one goal back.”
