Kean goes cold on contract

Under-pressure Blackburn boss Steve Kean has put talks over a new contract on hold until his side start to climb the Premier League table.

Rovers have won just six of their 33 games since Kean replaced Sam Allardyce as manager, and currently sit second from bottom in the standings.

The 44-year-old has already faced a number of fan protests over his position at the club’s helm, but the former Fulham and Coventry assistant manager has declared his intention to pen a new contract at Ewood Park until 2015, as soon as results on the pitch improve.

“Yes, there have been discussions about a new contract, but I have told the owners that this is an inappropriate time to conclude any new contract discussions,” Kean told ESPNsoccernet.

“Instead, the real issue is for me and everyone else to concentrate on the games. The fact that the owners have talked to me about a new contract means that they can see what we are building here, and we hope to make others see it too.”

“We need to turn the last remaining negatives into positives, and the vast majority of the fans can see that our performances deserve to be six or seven points better off and halfway up the table, those fans have seen for themselves what has happened in certain games when we deserved more from our performances. That will come.”
