Kean not giving up on Ronaldinho

Steve Kean remains hopeful of salvaging a deal for AC Milan forward Ronaldinho ahead of Blackburn’s FA Cup tie away to Queens Park Rangers.

Blackburn’s audacious bid for the Brazilian World Cup winner appeared dead in the water after the 30-year-old reportedly agreed to a move to former club Gremio.

But Rovers manager Kean has now indicated the two-time world player of the year could still arrive at Ewood Park.

“It seemed to go a little bit quiet for us and then it seemed to be back on yesterday so we’ll see how that progresses today and hopefully it goes in the positive way, if not, then we’ll move on and go to another target,” Kean said of the deal.

“We want to help the squad because we know that the games are coming thick and fast, and we’d like to have a good cup run, so it’s about adding to the squad.”

“The team shouldn’t pick itself, there will be selections to be made and that can only be good for morale if we’ve got a good healthy squad, so that’s really the reason we want to add.”

While some managers use the FA Cup as an opportunity to rest players, Kean does not believe Blackburn can afford the luxury of wholesale changes.

“We’re off the back of a good win against Liverpool and we are looking forward to a home-tie in the FA Cup, which is a fantastic cup competition and it’s something where we will be putting our strongest team out and getting a home draw in the next round if we can look after QPR which will be a very tough game,” he said.

“We don’t have a fantastic amount of choice at the moment; it’s not a case where we will be squad rotation or anything like that.”

“I think what we’ll be working on is keeping the momentum of what we gained from the Liverpool game, getting that buzz about Ewood Park and trying to get as far in the competition as we can.”
