Hollywood welcomed a new star on Saturday as Robbie Keane made his debut for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Republic of Ireland international marked his first MLS game with a goal against San Jose Earthquakes, taking the ball from another European star, David Beckham.
“When you play with good players it is always easy, and I think you’ve seen … David is quick thinking,” Keane said.
“And I was ready for him. So, we tried on a few occasions. And again, lucky enough, it worked for the goal.”
“I mean, when you’re playing with people like David, and Landon, players like that who’s quick thinking and wants to play the ball quick, you know, it is easy to play with.”
Keane only arrived in Los Angeles on Thursday after signing from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur for 3.5 million pounds.
The quick turnaround meant he had only managed one training session before the match, but that did not stop him opening his goal scoring account on Sunday.
“I have been here two days, so it is very difficult to get to know players, and, you know, one training session and one game, and as the games will go on, you know, three or four more games, I will get to know the players even better,” Keane said.
“And that will give me and the players a better understanding and hopefully that will make us a better team.”
“I felt, I felt good, considering that I’ve only tried once with the lads. I felt sharp.”
“Of course, you know, towards the second half you’re going to feel a little bit tired. So to get 70 minutes under my belt that’s certainly going to stand me in good stead for coming games.”
Galaxy are leading the Western Conference by six points and are hoping Keane will help them claim their first MLS championship in six years.
