Keane wants to swap Tottenham for Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur striker, Robbie Keane, has stunned White Hart Lane fans by revealing that he wants to quit Spurs to join Liverpool. It’s been reported that Keane was attracted by the chance to play in the Champions League.

According to a report in the Sun, Anfield boss Rafa Benitez is prepared to offer striker Peter Crouch and £5million cash for the 27 year old, Republic of Ireland international. However, the North Londoners insist the offer falls far short of their £20m valuation of the striker, 27.

Keane scored 24 goals in all competitions last season and a strike force of himself and Spain’s Euro 2008 hero Fernando Torres, would make Liverpool a major force in the title race next season.

magnumopus – it is not a foregone conclusion. It is true that he was a reds fan as a kid, but this type of loyalty is rarely decisive these days. He has, without prompting, expressed several times how much he has appreciated how settled he has been at the Lane, and, on ocasion, that he wants to end his career there. Little surprises me in football these days, but the fact is that he has specifically not asked for a transfer request so as not to alienate Spurs, merely to be kept informed. Spurs, on the other hand, have slapped a £20 million valuation on him, which Liverpool are patently struggling to match, and Spurs will be massively reluctant to see him leave, unexpectedly, when it was expected that Berbatov would leave, adn possibly Bent too. That will be a massive hole to fill. So, even if Liverpool match the cash price, and Keane says he will move (which is not certain), Spurs may still just say no. The player is on a 5 year contract so, especially if it is very late in the window with little chance of getting a suitable replacement, the club won’t have to sell, and probably wouldn’t want to. I doubt this would alienate Keane in the way it would some.

He will be a Red before the season begins and Keano has stated his preference is Red. Sorry mate, but this is true. It will happen only when and who is involved or just money is to be decided yet!

signing keane and barry would make some sense, but i would rather sign silva to keane personally since they are in the same price bracket, than deploy babel up front and silva on the wing….babel is strong up front, you will see this season as rafa said he will try playing him up there….

robbie has not asked for a move but it would require a cash offer end of really.
