The Red Devils are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, and they are likely to splash on a high-profile footballer in the January window.
According to Metro, Manchester United are set to step up their interest in AS Roma star Kevin Strootman.
The Red Devils missed out on the 23-year-old in the summer as he left PSV Eindhoven to join the Giallorossi, and he has since been in excellent form.
Strootman proved his worth in Italian Serie A, scoring 3 goals in 13 league appearances, with Manchester United boss David Moyes convinced the Netherlands international can be an instant hit at Old Trafford.
The reigning Premier League champions slipped to ninth following back to back home defeats to Everton and Newcastle, and are now priced at 6/5 to achieve a top 4 finish.
