For Premier League giants Liverpool the January transfer window was a mixed bag, with Philippe Coutinho departing for Barcelona, but Virgil van Dijk joining the Reds’ ranks from Southampton.
Given that goals haven’t been an issue for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, shoring up the defence was perhaps the correct move, but the German coach wants to address the goalkeeping issue next.
Unfortunately their main target Keylor Navas doesn’t want a Merseyside move, according to the Star, and the Real Madrid keeper personally rebuffed the Premier League side’s interest, if reports are to be believed.
Neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius have managed to establish themselves as a consistent and reliable shot stopper, and both are prone to mistakes at important moments. It is little surprise then that Liverpool are looking for a replacement, but they may have to look elswhere.
Navas has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish capital for some time, though Los Blancos haven’t made any moves to replace him.
