Oliver Kahn says Bayern Munich have laid the foundations to become a major European force for the next decade.
The Bavarian giants contest the Champions League trophy against Chelsea on Saturday, and the Bundesliga side’s former goalkeeper feels this could be the first of many finals in the near future.
“Bayern Munich have created all the conditions to be dominant for the next decade in Europe,” the 42-year-old told SPORT1.de.
Jupp Heynckes’ men know the venue of the crunch clash well, with the game to be played at their home ground Allianz Arena, but the retired Germany international feels neither side will have an advantage.
“It’s not a home game in the true sense; there will be as many Chelsea fans as there will be of Bayern in the stadium,” he said.
“Both teams have a similar starting position, because both have lost before in a Champions League final in the recent past – Bayern in 2010 and Chelsea in 2008. Both know the pain of losing and will want to win.
“I don’t imagine that Chelsea will change their style greatly. Against Barcelona, they were very physical, very defensive and robust.
“In addition, they played a lot of long balls to Didier Drogba, who is very strong in the air. Chelsea have experienced stalwarts like Frank Lampard, a player with remarkable character.”
