Arsenal look set to be disappointed in their pursuit of Sami Khedira, with the Real Madrid man closing in on a return to Germany with Schalke, according to the Metro.
The 27 year old has been continuously linked with a move away from the Bernabeu in recent months and England looked to be his most likely destination though it is Roberto Di Matteo’s side who are now leading the race for his services.
In five-and-a-half years with the La Liga giants, Khedira has racked up one hundred and sixty-one appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals.
During that time, he has won the league, Spanish Cup, Champions League, Super Cup and World Club Cup while internationally he was part of Germany’s victorious squad at last summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
Prior to his switch to Spain, he spent fifteen years at Bundesliga side Stuttgart, and now looks set to return to his home country.
