Sami Khedira could be set for a stint on the sidelines, with the midfielder injuring his ankle in Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey tie with Malaga.
The Germany international lasted just 44 minutes of Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Malaga’s Estadio La Roselada, exiting the game on a stretcher and replaced by Mesut Oezil.
It is not yet exactly known how long Khedira will be unavailable due to the ankle problem, as he has still to undergo tests to clarify the extent of the injury.
Real will be hopeful, however, that the former Stuttgart star’s ailment is not too serious and will allow him to return in time for Saturday’s La Liga trip to Mallorca.
Jose Mourinho’s men hold a five-point lead from arch-rivals Barcelona in the La Liga standings, with Khedira figuring in 13 of the side’s 17 matches.
