Bayer Leverkusen will be without their German international striker Stefan Kiessling for several weeks after he injured his ankle on Sunday, a club spokesperson revealed on Monday.
Kiessling had to be replaced after just 12 minutes of his side’s 0-0 draw at home to Nuremberg following a heavy challenge by Andreas Wolf.
The 26-year-old, who was the second-highest scorer in last season’s Bundesliga with 21 goals, is likely to miss his country’s Euro 2012 qualifying matches against Turkey on October 8 and Kazakhstan on October 12.
