According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King is set to announce his retirement from international football.

The centre-back, who is unable to train for his club, won a shock call-up to the England squad over the weekend for the upcoming matches against Slovakia and Ukraine.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp questioned England’s decision to call up the defender, telling The Independent, “It is a ridiculous situation really.

“He can’t train, if he trains then it’s seven days before he can play or do anything again. If he plays on a Saturday then it is touch-and-go whether he can play the next Saturday”.
