Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear has hit out at former Toon midfielder Charles N’Zogbia, accusing the former star of “living in a fantasy world” according to Sky Sports.
The French midfielder had publicly attacked Kinnear after moving to fellow Premier League side Wigan on transfer deadline day, whilst Ryan Taylor moved the opposite way to Newcastle.
N’Zogbia claimed there was little communication between players and Kinnear and that many were unhappy with the way the former Wimbledon manager goes about his business. Trouble escalated when Kinnear accidentaly referred to the midfielder as “Insomnia” during a post-match interview.
However, Kinnear has hit back at the Frenchman by revealing that the player in fact was desperate to leave the club anyway, boasting that numerous top European clubs were after him.
Kinnear told Sky Sports: “It’s laughable. He lived in a fantasy world. There was not a day when he didn’t add some Mickey Mouse story about a club that wanted him.
“First of all, he came in and told me Arsenal wanted to buy him, then the next week it was Aston Villa, then the next week, it was Manchester United, then the next week it was Real Madrid, then the next week it was Lyon.
“And each time he came in, he made it clear he did not want to be at the club so in the end, there was only one thing I could do – send him to Wigan.
“I checked out if any of these clubs wanted him and discovered they didn’t. I told him, ‘You are wasting my time and I don’t know why you are inventing all these stories.'”
