Ivan Klasnic said there are few unattached players available with his ability and is confident he will find a new club after leaving Bolton.
Despite the double disappointment of relegation from the Premier League and missing out on Croatia’s Euro 2012 squad, the 32-year-old believes he is in better shape than ever.
“I’ve become more experienced, but feel more like a 25-year-old. It sounds arrogant, but there are not often many strikers of my quality (available). I feel fit and am healthy,” he told Bild.
Four years ago, Klasnic scored two goals during Croatia’s 2008 European Championship campaign – a deed all the more remarkable as he had endured a kidney transplant in 2007. He was omitted from Slaven Bilic’s squad this time around, but has no hard feelings.
“(Missing out on Euro 2012) only makes me stronger. I must accept it, keep my fingers crossed for my fellow countrymen,” he said.
Klasnic enjoyed a prosperous spell at Werder Bremen, scoring 49 goals in 151 games between 2001 and 2008, but does not envision a return to his old stomping ground and is worried his former club may struggle after their relegation from the Bundesliga.
“Bremen was a great time. But it is long gone. Werder have to watch out now anyway – I’m worried about Werder. There are a lack of experienced players to show the boys where to go. For Werder it will be hard to get back up,” he said.
“We will see what happens, who comes in for (my) services. For me at least, I do not have to worry.”
