Klopp blasts ´disgusting´ Sevilla tactics

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp slammed Sevilla’s time wasting after his side were bundled out of the Europa League on Wednesday.

Dortmund needed to beat Sevilla to qualify for the last 32 of the competition, but could only manage a 2-2 draw in Spain despite taking an early lead.

Five minutes of injury time was played in the second half as Dortmund searched for a late winner, but Klopp was furious at the unsportsmanlike tactics employed by Sevilla.

“I think it would have been appropriate to play ten minutes injury time. If this is what happens in Europe I will tell my boys to not do it as it’s simply disgusting,” Klopp said.

“They wasted time and it’s annoying but we have to accept it in the end.”

“We failed to score a third goal, and Sevilla earned a draw, but overall there is a somewhat bad taste. It is a painful idea, if a class team like Sevilla plays such a type of football. ”

Sevilla boss Gregorio Manzano shrugged off the controversy, and said he hoped Sevilla’s success in the Europa League can help turn around their dreadful domestic form.

Sevilla have won just two of their last 10 matches in La Liga, but the draw against Dortmund ensured they finished second in Group J behind Paris Saint-Germain going into Friday’s draw for the next stage of the competition.

And Manzano said he hopes the confidence gained from the performance can jump start their domestic campaign, starting on Sunday against powerhouse Real Madrid.

“It’s a morale boosting victory. We had a very difficult opponent who at the moment are the second best team in Europe behind Barcelona in terms of form,” Manzano said.

“We were given positive encouragement and hopefully we can carry this form into the league.”

“The team played well after we scored, and in the second half, when Dortmund equalised, we came out with even more. The players gave it their all for 90 minutes.”
