Klopp wants home improvements

Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp is concerned about his side’s form at home this season.

The statement comes after Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen on the road and it seems as though Dortmund are more comfortable on their travels – claiming just 14 points from eight matches at home.

Klopp’s men will be looking to rectify that when they face Nuremberg at the Signal Iduna Park on Friday.

“The issue is that we only have got 14 points at home. That’s a very strange number, to be honest. It sounds like we’ve only five matches played. But in reality half of the season is over and we still just got 14 points at home,” Klopp said.

“We have to play the game in a way where our opponents are barely able to cope. We started with that in Bremen but nothing more.”

Having won the last two Bundesliga titles, Dortmund have plenty of work to make it a treble as they currently sit in third place, 12 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

But with Klopp’s team doing so well in the UEFA Champions League, he is more concerned about making sure his side returns to European football’s premier competition next season.

“We really do feel pressure but it comes from the teams behind us and from within the group. It’s like in films when you try to be funny, because it’s never easy. In football it’s never as simple as it looks either,” he said.

“When striving for perfection it’s not always easy. Only sometimes in Bremen did we make look things completely simple and that what’s we should be aiming for.”

A win for Dortmund on Friday would see them go above Bayer Leverkusen into second, with Leverkusen playing the following day against Freiburg.

Bayern face a tricky trip to Stuttgart, hoping to maintain their nine point-gap over Leverkusen.
