Knee trouble to sideline Breno

Breno’s turbulent season at Bayern Munich is set to continue following news the Brazilian defender must undergo knee surgery.

The 22-year-old tore his anterior cruciate ligament in March 2010, before suffering a new injury to his meniscus ligament toward the end of last season.

Breno is yet to feature this term, and made headlines for the wrong reason when he arrested on suspicion of arson in September 2011.

The former Sao Paulo man had hoped to make a comeback, but he has now been dealt another blow with the news that his knee will require a further operation.

“The knee has responded to stress. A game would have done no favours for Breno,” Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes told Sport Bild this week.

The centre-back’s contract expires at the end of this season.
