Koeman admires Liverpool’s Wijnaldum but no approach from Barcelona yet

Having worked with him during his stint as the manager of Netherlands national team, newly appointed Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman is a big admirer of Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum, according to Sky Sports, but the Catalan club have made no approach with a view of a transfer so far.

Liverpool signed the Dutch midfielder from Newcastle United in 2016 for £25 million, and he has so far played a total of 196 games in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s team. Wijnaldum loves playing for Liverpool, the team he helped to win the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League this year. However, the 29-year-old’s contract is now in its final 12 months, and though some reports claimed a new one was expected to be signed earlier this summer, it seems the talks between the club and his representatives on the matter are still to take place.

Barcelona are expected to go through a major overhaul after the Champions League humiliation they suffered at the hands of Bayern Munich and some believe a lucrative contract offer from the Catalan giants would be hard for Wijnaldum to turn down.
