Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has admitted that it is unlikely that he will be able to sign Andros Townsend from Spurs before Monday’s transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports.
The Saints have been on the lookout for a replacement for former captain Adam Lallana, who completed his £25m move to Liverpool earlier this summer.
Townsend, who scored in Spurs’ 3-0 win over AEL yesterday evening, had been identified as the man to fill the void by the former Feyenoord boss, though he has conceded that a deal is unlikely to materialise.
Earlier this week, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino moved to say that Townsend was part of his plans going forward.
He has played just twenty-nine minutes in the league so far this season, but his goal midweek may have boosted his chances to be involved in Sunday’s league game at home to Liverpool, where the home win is priced at 17/10.
