According to a recent report from Sport, Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman wants Lionel Messi to finish his career at Barcelona.

Koeman went on to say that he is expecting a contract extension to be formally announced soon, closing off the idea of the Argentine moving elsewhere.

The future of Ronald Koeman himself has been up for debate in recent months but now, with it seeming likely that he’s going to remain at the Nou Camp, his focus has shifted to his squad.

There’s a rebuilding expected to take place during the summer transfer window and while Messi did seem destined to leave for the longest time, that doesn’t look to be on the cards anymore.

At the very least some clubs may still try and get a deal over the finish line before a contract extension is announced, but the financial implications alone seem pretty daunting given his stature as one of the greatest of all time.
