Paris Saint-Germain coach Antoine Kombouare says he is hoping majority shareholders Colony Capital give him the funds to buy a new centre-back before the transfer window closes on August 31.
“I’m waiting for a gesture from the shareholders,” Kombouare said on Saturday. “Today it’s imperative to recruit at least one defender.
“Am I optimistic? Yes. As long as the deadline of August 31 has not passed, I will be. We’re working on it.”
PSG started the season in solid fashion but have conceded six goals in their last two matches, including five from set-pieces.
They lost 2-1 at home to Bordeaux in Ligue 1 last weekend, before being defeated 4-3 by Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Europa League play-off round on Thursday (although they went through 5-4 on aggregate).
Negotiations over a move for Valenciennes’s Serbian centre-back Milan Bisevac have broken down and PSG were linked with a loan move for Dynamo Kiev’s Senegalese centre-back Pape Diakhate in the French press on Saturday.
