Vincent Kompany lauded Bayern Munich’s response to their Champions League setback after downing Freiburg in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash.
Bayern battled to a 2-1 away victory over Freiburg, whose second-half goal from Matthias Ginter proved a mere consolation as Kompany’s side held on.
Harry Kane opened the scoring for the German giants before Kim Min-Jae added a second shortly after the interval.
It proved a much-needed response to a 3-0 hammering by Feyenoord in Europe, leading Kompany to laud his side’s efforts.
“I knew this game would not be easy so what happened here today was not strange,” Kompany told a press conference. “We knew we would have to fight.”
“Overall it was a tough week with three games for us. We came here with the right mentality. Maybe it was not our prettiest game but it was a good win because this Freiburg team at home is very tough to beat.
“We can’t change the story in Rotterdam but we could influence the story today and that was our only focus. We need to take our steps. There is no success or titles without such moments.”
